Brianna “BriMarie” Murphy, LAC
Licensed Associate Counselor
Who am I?
I am an alumna of Arizona State University with a BA in Sociology and later graduated with a MA in Counseling from Phoenix Seminary. Some of the things I enjoy in everyday life include spending time with friends and family, hiking, reading, learning about other cultures, and listening to music. In the counseling field, I am EMDR trained and have experience with clients ages 5 and up. I can provide individual and family therapy with play, art modalities, and CBT. I do my best to understand each individual client (or family)’s background, interests, and strengths to work holistically on reaching their counseling goals.
From past personal experience and research, I am also well-versed in the topic of narcissism, boundaries, and creative problem solving for staying safe and living your best life despite stressors.
What brought me to this field?
During my youth and even now I have always loved exploring new places and learning about the world and the people in it. Then, I realized in my early college years I cared more about connecting with people than seeing new sights via the travel industry. I began to understand my interest in helping people on a holistic level and went from working in customer service retail to caregiving to joining an occupational therapy program at the University of Puget Sound.
While living briefly in Washington State around extended family, I realized that my heart was called to the mental health field and also back to Arizona where I was born and raised. I was graciously given a year to decide if I would return to the occupational therapy program or pursue social work or counseling. OT mental health jobs were hard to find and ultimately I chose to become a counselor where I get to focus more with clients on overcoming their mental and emotional struggles in life. From this grounding point I believe clients can then better find peace, appreciation, motivation, and success in their bigger picture as well as with every day “activities of daily living”.
